Global Templates

Due to the organization’s size, there were many external facing products with different stylings, which created difficulty in brand recognition. By creating a design system and corresponding global templates, users were able to distinguish what content was officially from the organization.

Problem

ChurchofJesusChrist.org had many external facing web pages and applications with competing styles, which led to a lack of brand recognition. Users had difficulty understanding what was officially from the organization, and encountered different affordances on various pages of the site.

Solution

We created a design system with stylings from granular details, like typography, icons, and buttons, to larger components. Global templates were designed to serve a variety of business purposes, such as indexing large amounts of content or long-form articles.

Outcome

Universal patterns were created with the design system and global templates to create consistency across web and native applications. A 2017 audit performed across the affected sites indicated 69% of the organization needs were satisfied by the templates designed. An additional 11% were satisfied by more components and templates being released that year. By creating global templates we developed a more recognizable brand that a user can easily identify what is and what isn’t made by the organization.
